Army dismantles FARC bike-bomb in Arauca

Colombian soldiers deactivated a “bicycle-bomb,” allegedly belonging to the FARC, in the eastern, Venezuelan border department of Arauca early Tuesday morning, reports CM&.

According to authorites, soldiers from the Army’s 18th Brigade found the bicycle-bomb on a sidewalk in the town of Saravena, and took it to a deserted field to be destroyed.

In a press release on their website, the Army claimed that guerilla leaders “Arsecio” and “Misael” from the FARC’s 10th Front were responsible for the foiled terrorist attack.

The press release explained that the failed attack forms part of FARC’s ongoing campaign aimed at “destabilizing and disrupting public order in the region for the upcoming electoral process [the presidential elections] on May 30.”
