Army claims FARC commander’s death

The Colombian army says it killed José de Jesús Guzmán, alias ‘Gaitán’,
the presumed commander of the guerrillas’ Antonio Nariño block that
operates in central Colombia.

‘Gaitán’ allegedly was the boss of ‘El Negro Antonio’, who was captured Friday were captured. Ten guerrillas were killed in that attack and eleven The death of ‘Gaitán’ was the result of investigations and interrogations following this operation on Friday.

According to the military, the FARC commander was killed in Sumapaz, Cundinamarca. He is suspected of being the communications boss of the Eastern Block, led by FARC-secretariat member ‘Mono Jojoy’.

The death of Gaitán is the third military success claimed by the army this weekend. Aside the capture of ‘El Negro Antonio’ and the death of ‘Gaitán, the army says they discovered the former base of ‘Mono Jojoy’ in Meta.
