by Adriaan Alsema October 30, 2008

The Colombian army said it struck two blows at Colombia’s largest rebel group
FARC Wednesday. It killed ‘Felipe Rincón’, a former negotiator of the
rebels and captured the right hand man of FARC commander ‘Mono Jojoy’.

Álvaro Alfonso Serpa, alias Felipe Rincón, was killed by the army in an attack on a rebel camp one the border of Meta and Caquetá.

Serpa was a senior member of the guerrilla group, one of its ideologists and accompanied slain commander ‘Raúl Reyes’ when traveling to Europe looking for support for the rebels.

José Márvel Zamora, a.k.a. ‘Chucho’ or ‘The Professor’ was the number two of FARC commander ‘Mono Jojoy’. He was captured in Coyaima, Tolima Wednesday.
