FARC 25th Front leader captured

The Colombian army announced the capture of a leader of the FARC’s 25th Front on Wednesday, as well as seven other FARC guerrillas in central Colombia.

Army officials announced that they had captured Albeiro Garcia, alias “Arcadia,” who officials claim to be the main leader of the FARC’s 25th front.

Arcadia was captured in central Colombia between the Huila and Meta departments near Tolima, where government forces are pursuing FARC supreme leader Alfonso Cano.

Seven other FARC guerrillas were captured and two more were reported killed.

Arcadia is believed to have served 19 years in the FARC. At one point, he was second in command, and later was appointed as commander of a FARC mobile division.

Antonio Jimenez, alias “Gonzalo,” was also reported as captured. Gonzalo was the alleged chief financial officer of the 25th front.

The army said it captured thirteen firearms and documents of intelligence value in the raid.
