Army captain caught transporting cocaine

Authorities have detained an army captain after having caught him transporting 460 grams of cocaine base through a police checkpoint in the central department of Tolima, El Espectador reported Wednesday.

Captain Nilson Eugenio Garcia Hortua was travelling with Camilo Eduardo Mejia Montoya in a Chevrolet Optra when they stopped at the checkpoint and police subsequently searched the vehicle.

According to official reports, the pair were attempting to pass through the checkpoint using a permit issued by the director of the School of Arms and Services, before the almost half a kilo of cocaine base was found.

The army command announced that it would take appropriate disciplinary and administrative actions internally, independent of the outcome of concurrent criminal investigations being conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
