Arms-trafficking pop singer arrested in southwest Colombia

Police in the southwest of Colombia said Tuesday they have arrested a pop singer who was caught red-handed trafficking five rifles, two rifle scopes and 10 bullet magazines.

Carduin Garcia, a.k.a. Gaby Garcia, was arrested on a road near Popayan, the capital of the troubled Cauca state.

The singer received some fame in Colombia after releasing his song “La Vaca Ladrona.”

According to the police, the arms were hidden in a secret compartment in the back of Garcia’s car.

Consequently, the singer will be charged with the “fabrication, trafficking and carrying of firearms and ammunition for the sole use of the military, and the fabrication, trafficking and carrying of firearms, ammunition or explosives,” the police said in a press release.

Garcia’s girlfriend, who is featured in the Vaca Ladrona video, was also in the car and charged with the same crimes, but denied all charges.
