Armed forces will increase by 6,000

Colombia will have 6,000 more soldiers by the end of the year Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos announced Wednesday.

Santos said 5,000 police and 1,000 marines are being recruited in order to reinforce security in Colombia.

He said they will be sufficiently trained and equipped to operate in the more unstable areas of the country.

He added that they will have greater mobility within the country thanks to 80 new Black Hawk helicopter, which will be used in national operations.
