As the transfer market for the Argentine league comes to a close this weekend, several teams in one of South America’s leading leagues are making moves to bring in Colombian talent.
Former Atletico Nacional defender Jairo Palomino arrived Friday in Buenos Aires, where he will spend the year with Racing Club, on loan from Al-Ahli in Saudia Arabia.
Another defender, Juan Daniel Roa, may find himself in Buenos Aires for next year’s league. Local giant Boca Juniors placed the 21-year-old Colombian on their official roster as a reserve. And while Colombian runner-up Independiente Sante Fe have yet to receive a formal offer for Roa’s services, his representative has said he is excited about the potential move, and Boca Juniors will have one more week to negotiate for his contract.
Aresenal de Sarandi also made a last-minute addition to their roster. On Thursday night, they registered Giovanny Moreno with the Argentine Football Association. The holding midfielder, who spent last season with Shanghai Shenhua, is expected to join his new team after this weekend’s season opener.

With Teofilo Gutierrez’s arrival at River Plate on Wednesday, Palomino and Moreno are the second and third Colombians this week to sign on with Argentine clubs. The Primera, one of South America’s two biggest leagues and already a stronghold of Colombian players, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for a country currently producing some of the world’s best young talent.
