Carlos Slim, the world’s richest man according to Forbes, said Wednesday he wants to boost his investments in Colombia’s oil industry.
According to Slim, his increase in investment is due to the Colombian government’s open policy on oil exploration, the country’s mineral assets and growing middle class.
“The government is actively looking at the development of the oil industry and is promoting other investments,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg. “We’re looking at what to do beyond the telecommunications business that we’ve been doing for 10 years in Colombia.”
Slim said he aims to expand the drilling and oil-platform services he provides Mexico’s Petroleos Mexicanos through exploration opportunities in Colombia.
