US praises Colombian anti-drug efforts

The director of the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy, Gil Kerlikowske, on Monday praised the collaborative work between his country and Colombia in the fight against drugs.

Speaking at the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Kerlikowske said that the work the two governments have done is “magnificent.”

The U.S. official recounted a trip to Colombia, where he met with President Uribe, and said that he is happy the two countries are able to work as a team.

Kerlikowske also spoke with some Colombian officials who were in town for the conference, including director of the country’s drug enforcement agency, Omar Figueroa, and director of the Anti-Narcotics Police, General Francisco Patiño.
