US court convicts FARC rebels of drug trafficking

A U.S. court found three FARC rebels guilty of drug trafficking Tuesday. Among the rebels is “Sonia,” who the FARC repeatedly asked to be repatriated.

Sonia, “Calvo” and “Flaco” are the first members of the Colombian guerrilla group to be found guilty of drug trafficking charges by a U.S. jury.

According to Colombian media, the guerrillas face sentences between 10 and 30 years in prison.

Sonia was a member of the FARC’s Southern Bloc, the wealthiest of rebel blocks because of its involvement in drug trafficking.
