US-bound flight returns to Colombia after fire alert

An American Airlines flight from Colombia to the U.S. was forced to turn back shortly after take-off due to the presence of smoke in the cabin, reports El Espectador.

The pilot of the flight, which departed from the Colombian city of Cali at 8:10 AM Friday morning for Miami, reported to the control tower ten minutes after take-off that there was smoke or fire in the cabin, causing him to make an immediate return to the Alfonso Bonilla Aragon airport.

The pilot landed the plane safely and without any problems, ensuring the safety of the 95 passengers aboard the aircraft.

After landing, the plane was handed over to technical experts to determine the source and cause of the incident, which as yet remains unknown.
