Uribe refused to accept my resignation: Santos

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe refused to accept his resignation, vice-President Francisco Santos said Sunday.

Santos is under investigation by the Prosecutor General for his alleged ties to a paramilitary group.

He told El Tiempo, where he used to work as Editor in Chief, that “not only did Uribe not accept my resignation but he spoke of going to war with those interested in damaging the government and myself”.

Santos said that the accusations are part of a conspiracy to discredit him.

“I now have no doubt that the objective of those who want to link me to paramilitarism is this: to provoke my resignation, generate a vaccum and create a political crisis,” Santos said.
