Earthquakes of magnitudes 4.5 and 3.6., respectively, left Colombia shaken but not significantly damaged on Sunday; no one was injured.
Colombians in two of the country’s departments, Santander in the North and Huila in the South, suffered a shock, however the earthquake did not cause any injuries or damage, local media reported.
The stronger quake, of magnitude 4.5, struck at 10.23AM in the department of Santander, 4.5 miles from the nearest town, Los Santos. The earthquake was felt in other parts of the region, including its capital, Bucaramanga, located 23 miles from its epicentre. The tremor had a depth of over 91 miles according to the Colombia’s National Seismological Network.
The town of Los Santos is the second most seismically active area of the world and experiences an average of 390 tremors a month, the equivalent of one every two hours.
The magnitude 3.6 tremor took place at 5.04AM in the town of Nataga, in the Southern department of Huila. Its epicentre was over 5 miles from the town centre and had a depth of approximately 18 miles. The seismic waves also reached the departments of Caqueta and Putumayo.
