A judge has condemned television presenter Angelica Ramirez to 14 years, five months in prison for terrorism and extortion after a trial which lasted over a year, Colombian media reported.
According to the sentence, the presenter planned a terrorist attack on the premises of the Mar Azul hotel in the south of the city of Neiva on June 24, 2010, with the leaders of the FARC’s 17th Front.
The presenter from Neiva was convicted based on the evidence of a demobilized FARC fighter John Faver Montoya Molina, alias “Pato,” who claimed Ramirez met with members of the leftist guerrilla group.
The hotel is owned by her former husband, who reported Ramirez to authorities as a suspect. Ramirez reportedly left her husband after he allegedly psychologically and physically abused her.
Her defense lawyer will appeal the sentence. Ramirez’s defense has claimed that she is the victim of an elaborate set-up.
