Trujillo mayor arrested for 1990 massacre

 

Police arrested the mayor of Trujillo, Cauca Wednesday for his alleged
responsibility of the 1990 massacre that left more than 100 people dead.

Rubén Darío Agudelo and his wife were arrested 28 years after a 107 unionists and suspected FARC supporters were killed in a series of raids in the town, allegedly carried out by both members of Norte del Valle cartel and Colombia’s armed forces.

Several members of the Colombian army and leaders of the Norte del Valle cartel are already in jail for the massacre.

Vice-President Francisco Santos Wednesday asked the families of the vistims forgiveness for the army’s role in the slaughter. “It hurts to know members of the Police and the Army took part in a massacre in which drug traffickers played such a big role.”
