Colombia’s State Council ruled that Samuel Arrieta and Manuel Rosero have to give up their senate seats because a recount of votes showed they did not get enough votes in last election.
The decision comes after the State Council reviewed the 2006 election counts and discovered that there were electoral irregularities, which forced the councillors to nullify 30 thousand votes.
The State Council recounted the votes after the nullification and found that neither Rosero nor Arrieta had obtained the minimum amount of votes to keep their Senate seats.
Rosero is member of the Partido de la U, and Arrieta is the president of Convergencia Ciudadana, both coalition parties.
