50,000 people gathered in the streets of Cali Friday to enjoy the official start of the legendary Feria de Cali, which this year did not just fill the salsadrome parade with salsa, but also some of Brazil’s finest samba groups.
From tireless eight-year-old dancers to the senior dancers of the viejo guardia paraded for 20 blocks bringing the rhythm of salsa and samba to the streets. Families gathered to watch and residents of the local neighborhoods stood on their balconies to enjoy one of the most spectacular parades in the nation with over 2,000 dancers mesmerizing the crowds.
The theme of the parade was “The Influence” and each salsa school represented the theme in an original way. Dancers came out in animal costumes, in samba costumes and representing the element of fire and its influence on salsa.
