Shakira releases new album

Colombian pop star Shakira is back with her new album “The Sun Comes Out,” or “Sale el sol,” which is sung in both Spanish and English.

“‘The Sun Comes Out’ has three directions. There is the intense and romantic side. But it also includes a rock and roll element to it. I have started my career as a rock artist who later became pop and it has been fun to rediscover this artistic vein. And then there is the Latin side. I grew up listening to merengue and went to the Dominican Republic to reconnect with this music. The recording is very personal and genuine,” Shakira told news website terra.com.

The new album will include songs like “The Sun Comes Out” which was written with friend and collaborator Luis Fernando Ochoa and “Waka Waka”. Another feature is the first single “Loca” which mixes elements of merengue and techno-percussion.

The album was recorded in the Bahamas, London, Barcelona and the Dominican Republic and the title is a very personal statement. Shakira explained that “I was feeling a little low at the end of last year, but at the beginning of 2010, everything began to shine again … there is a sun within us that hopefully never disappears.”
