Santos expresses thanks after successful surgery

Hours after coming out of successful surgery for non-aggressive prostate cancer, Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos tweeted his thanks for all the support he received.

The 61-year-old who is currently recovering in hospital wrote, “thank god everything went well and I am recovering satisfactorily. My family and I are very grateful for all your support.”

Santos announced his condition on Monday before setting off to Peru on a trade mission, returning to Colombia in time for his surgery on Wednesday.

Doctors reported that the tumor had not spread and the president is expected to stay in recovery for the next two to three days. He will not have to undergo chemotherapy but is allegedly not allowed to travel while he recoups.
