Santos announces Colombia’s Prosecutor General shortlist

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced his shortlist of candidates for Prosecutor General Tuesday.

The role was left vacant following the forced removal of Viviane Morales last month, after Colombia’s Supreme Court ruled she had not been properly elected.

Candidates were drawn from both public and private sectors and those shortlisted were Maria Luisa Mesa, Eduardo Montealegre and Monica de Greiff, whose father Gustavo de Greiff Restrepo was the first person to hold the role after the 1991 constitution was introduced.

The president expressed his confidence that the Supreme Court would issue its choice shortly and said that any of the people on the shortlist, “has more than enough capacity to fill this important position.”
