The sixth stage in the Vuelta a Colombia 2009 was won by Josè Rujano.
The Venezuelan also took the lead in the general classification.
The several climbs during the 177km stage from Santa Rosa de Cabal and Sabaneta allowed Rujano to show off his climbing abilities. At the finish, the 27-year-old had an advantage of more than three minutes over a chase group.
Rujano is one of South America’s top cyclists, having formed part of principal teams such as Quick Step and Caisse d’Epargne. In 2005, the rider won a stage and the mountains classification in the Giro d’Italia.
At this moment, Rujano rides for Venezuelan team Gobernación del Zulia.
The Vuelta a Colombia hits Medellín on Saturday, as the riders face an individual time trial. Rujano, being national time trial champion in Venezuela, should be able to defend his Red Jersey.
