62 Colombian congressional candidates banned from running

Colombia’s National Registry Office on Thursday asked the National Electoral Council to annul the registration of 62 congressional candidates because of irregularities in their enrollments.

Registrar General Carlos Ariel Sanchez reported that after analyzing registrations, eleven candidates were found to be involved in criminal investigations. Four candidates were enrolled with more than one political party, two candidates were enrolled with the same party more than once, and 47 did mot meet the minimum age requirement.

The Registry Office also complained that six parties were using the colors of the Colombian flag, four were using national symbols and one was using the logo of another party. All these practices are illegal under Colombian law.
