Rainy season death toll set at 281

The Colombian branch of the Red Cross set the death toll of this year’s catastrophic rainy season at 281.

According to the humanitarian organization, a total of 2.2 million people have so far been affected by the rains, floods and landslides.

Red Cross Colombia director Carlos Ivan Marquez told press that 3,100 homes have been destroyed.

So far, 1,559 emergency situations occurred in 698 of 1,120 municipalities in 28 of 32 departments.

According to the national government, the rainy season has left the country $5.2 billion in damages.
