‘Trusted’ FARC member captured in Meta

The Colombian army has captured a man alleged to be one of the FARC’s most trusted members in the central department of Meta, reported W Radio Monday.

Henry Boinat, 30, wanted for crimes of kidnapping, illegal possession of weapons, conspiracy and rebellion, was arrested during a morning operation in the city of Villavicencio, said the army.

Boinat, part of the FARC’s Eastern Bloc, commanded by top guerrilla “Mono Jojoy” until his death in 2010, is also alleged to have taken part in the kidnapping of an eastern Colombia mayoral candidate in 2011. Alexander King was held hostage for 30 days before being rescued.

According to authorities, the guerrillas are seeking to regain strength in the central departments of Cundinamarca and Meta.
