Prominent EPL member captured by Colombian security forces

A prominent member of the EPL, known by the alias “El Pija” or “the dick,” was captured by Colombian security forces Sunday in the north of the country.

El Pija is believed to be the right-hand man of supreme EPL commander “Megateo,” and was captured by soldiers of the Volcano Task Force near the village of San Pablo, El Tarra.

The troops also seized weapons, ammunition, army uniforms and materials allegedly en route to Megateo’s compound.

The EPL is one of Colombia’s oldest guerrilla movements, but has been officially demobilized since 1991. The currently active EPL is a dissident faction of the original guerrilla movement that refused to reintegrate and is primarily active in the northern Colombian Norte de Santander department.
