Police find 28 kilos of cocaine in ‘narco-taxi’

Colombian police seize 28 kilos of highest purity cocaine being transported in a taxi near Cartagena, on the Caribbean coast, RCN Radio reports.

The taxi, which was travelling from Turbaco to Cartagena, was stopped and searched by the police in the Ternera neighborhood. The drugs were found wrapped in clothes and hidden in two cardboard boxes.

The driver was identified as Luis Eduardo de Leon, a 47-year-old native of Cartagena.

In April this year the Colombian navy seized 675 kilos of cocaine in a speed boat in Pacific waters between Colombia and Panama, while Colombian security agency DAS seized 600 kilos in the Yumbo municipality in the southern Valle del Cauca department.

2010 also saw the first discovery of a cocaine shipment hidden in vials containing duck embryos.
