Police confirms threats against Supreme Court judges and politicians

Colombia’s National Police director, Oscar Naranjo, confirmed Friday
a number of Supreme Court judges and politicians are being threatened.
The Police says it is taking the necessary measures to guarantee the
security of those in supposed danger.

Thursday, Caracol Radio reported there exists a plan to assassinate Augusto Ibañez, president of the Supreme Court, and judge Jaime Alberto Arrubla Paucar. Others whose life is threatened are presidential candidate German Vargas Lleras and Senator Rodrigo Lara Restrepo, both from political party Cambio Radical, and former Peace Commissioner Victor G. Ricardo.

Naranjo, in an interview with the same radio station, said the Police has dealing with the threats “with maximum prudence and maximum responsibility, without underestimating them, but without causing panic, verifying all information that is given.”
