Police and students clash over U.S.-Colombia pact

Three students and sixteen policemen were reported injured in
Bucaramanga on Wednesday when police and students clashed over plans to
allow the U.S. military to use Colombian army bases.

Several media reported that about 200 students violently protested against the military plans and threw dozens of potato bombs near the city’s Technical University. According to local newspaper Vanguardia, clashes between police and students lasted about three hours.

Inside the university campus, protesters ravaged a diner and an ATM, said Canal Caracol.

Following the riots, the University suspended classes. On Thursday morning it was not known if the university would resume its activities.

Two students were arrested.
