Environmental authorities warned of the possible presence of lionfish in Cartagena’s tourist district, Bocagrande, radio station RCN reported Thursday.
A tourist was allegedly swimming near the Bocagrande beaches, and left the water with “horrible pain in one of their legs,” the possible result of an encounter with a lionfish.
Some swimmers aware of the situation have forgone swimming for other activities in the tourist area.
Nevertheless, other sources say that there is little likelihood of the attack, because there is not enough information about the massive presence of this poisonous fish species near the beaches of Bocagrande.
