Pilot Dies in Plane Crash: Colombian Air Force

A Colombian Air force (FAC) Kfir fighter jet crashed in the country’s central region during a routine exercise, killing one of the pilots, the FAC said on Tuesday.

The Israeli-built plane crashed at 4:53 pm local time on Tuesday afternoon during a training mission in the state of Caldas, killing one the plane’s two passengers.

According to the FAC, one of the passengers who was able to eject himself from the plane before it went down was “rescued alive and is in now undergoing medical assessment in an Airforce clinic” in the adjacent state of Cundinamarca.

“Unfortunately, the other passenger perished with the aircraft,” the press release added.

Last September another Kfir aircraft crashed in the same region, however, both pilots survived the incident, local media reported.

The Colombian Air force has begun an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
