Petro supports gay adoption rights

Polo Democratico presidential candidate Gustavo Petro on Thursday declared his support for the right for same-sex couples to adopt children, reports El Espectador.

Petro said he wants to put an end to discrimination against minority groups, and that if elected, he would not rule out proposing to Congress a law allowing homosexual couples to adopt.

The Polo Democratico leader added that his party welcomes members of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual) community.

It is unclear which candidate the LGBT community will support in the upcoming May 30 elections. Left-wing Petro is the first candidate to publicly support same-sex adoption.
