1 dead in army-‘FARC’ clashes near child kidnap spot

Fighting between the Colombian Armed Forces and alleged members of the FARC has left one soldier dead and three people injured, Colombian media reported Wednesday.

Soldier Diego Andres Avila Castrilon was killed and two others injured. A 14-year-old girl, Emma Maritza Peña Parada, was also seriously injured according to Caracol Radio.

The fighting took place in the north of the department of Arauca on the Venezuelan border close to Forbul, the town from which 10-year-old Nohora Valentina Muñoz was kidnapped Thursday morning.

The municipalities of Sarabena and Arauquita, close to where the fighting happened, are areas which have seen increased presence of the Armed Forces working to locate the missing child.
