Number of victims of floods and landslides surpass 100,000

More than 100,000 people across Colombia are affected by landslides and
floods that followed heavy rainfall. The northern Córdoba department
has been hit hardest.

According to the Center for Disaster Prevention and Response, approximately 17,000 people were evacuated from their Córdoba homes. It is feared that rain expected to fall this week will further flood the areas around the San Jorge and Sinú rivers, which could severely worsen the situation.

More than half of Colombia’s departments are suffering from the weather.

The armed forces have been deployed to evacuate victims and the government has begun taking humanitarian aid to the regions worst hit.
