New left-wing party not associated with FARC: Cordoba

Former Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba on Monday denied accusations her new left-wing movement is associated with guerrilla group FARC.

Cordoba, defended her Patriotic March movement on Monday in response to the Defense Minister’s claims last week that “it is funded largely by the FARC terrorist organization.”

Cordoba said that because of the continued “attacks” of the government she is lodging a complaint with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

The controversial politician, together with more than a thousand social and political movements, founded the Patriotic March in April in advance of the 2014 elections.

Cordoba was banned from the Senate after the Inspector General found her guilty of having ties with the FARC. Colombia’s Supreme Court has been investigating these allegations since 2008.
