Colombia promotes investment in Santa Marta

Colombia’s Caribbean coastal city of Santa Marta will soon have its own agency devoted to attracting foreign and domestic investment, reported newspaper El Informado Tuesday.

The announcement was made following a meeting between Colombia’s Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, Sergio Diaz-Granados, and the mayor of Santa Marta, Carlos Omar.

The agency will be a public-private entity that works to attract investment in promising economic sectors such as information technology and outsourcing services.

While tourism does a lot for the city, said Granados, this agency would help generate more jobs, especially for young people.

His ministry is working with Santa Marta on a number of projects meant to attract tourists and investors, including infrastructure improvements and the restoration of historical sites.

These projects and the development of the new investment agency are part of a nationwide program aimed at generating development and boosting employment in Colombia.
