Nephew of FARC commander Mono Jojoy killed

The body of senior FARC commander Mono Jojoy’s nephew was found in a mass grave along with 15 other bodies of members of the rebel group.

The commander of the Military Forces, General Freddy Padilla de Leon, said that due to information from a demobilized guerrilla, a pit was located in which were found 16 bodies of rebels belonging to the FARC’s Eastern Bloc.

According to Leon, the rebels were reportedly killed in a raid conducted by troops of the Omega Joint Task Force in a rural area of La Uribe, in the Meta Department.

Among the bodies was found that of the nephew of Jorge Briceno, also known as ‘Mono Jojoy’, one of the FARC’s most senior commanders. His body was allegedly hidden in a mass grave to prevent the armed forces finding out about his death, reported newspaper El Espectador.

“We have information that these 16 guerrillas were killed during an Omega military operation. We also know that Mono Jojoy is unaware of his nephew’s death,” said General Leon.
