Nacional and La Equidad advance to Colombian final

Atletico Nacional defeated Deportes Tolima and La Equidad beat Millonarios to advance to the final of the 2011 Liga Postobon I.

After winning their home game 3-1 in Medellin, Nacional traveled to Ibague knowing that even a one-goal defeat would still be good enough for a spot in the final.

And that is exactly what occured as a converted penalty goal from Tolima’s Dario Bustos turned out to be the game’s only goal. As such, Nacional win the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

The home side were not helped by a straight red card to Wilmer Diaz in the 69th minute, just as Tolima were looking to score a second goal.

In the other semi final, La Equidad beat Millonarios 2-1 (4-3 on aggregate) to secure their spot in the final.

The first half at El Techo stadium went by without goals, but La Equidad broke the deadlock through Wilberto Cosme after five minutes in the second.

The tie seemed decided when Cosme headed home for a second with just ten minutes to go, but a well-taken free kick from Edison Toloza gave Millonarios renewed hope in the 87th minute.

La Equidad held on to their lead however, and as such advance to the final.

The first leg of the final between Nacional and La Equidad takes place on Sunday, June 12th, with the second scheduled for the following Wednesday.
