Sofia Vergara loses Emmy to ‘Modern Family’ co-star

Colombian actress Sofia Vergara misses out on her second consecutive Emmy award, this year to “Modern Family” co-star Julie Bowen.

The Baranquilla-born actress, who plays Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, the family’s father’s sassy Colombian trophy wife, has been nominated twice for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She lost last year to Glee’s Jane Lynch.

Vergara’s red Vera Wang dress, however, was considered a huge hit on the red carpet, although the Colombian felt she looked a bit like a transvestite.

“Transvestites are an exaggeration [of] femininity and an exaggeration of curves,” she continued. “That’s how I feel sometimes next to other women. I have everything and then [I’m also] a little bit exaggerated,” explained Vergara.

“Modern Family” picked up four Emmys in total, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
