Miss Atlantico wins best handmade dress award

Miss Atlantico, Yuliana Mejia Restrepo, won the award for best artisan dress Sunday as Miss Colombia madness arrived in the Caribbean port city Cartagena Sunday.

In a parade that was held for the first time outside of the walled city since the Miss Colombia candidates began touring the country, the Atlantic representative beat out her other 24 competitors with a two-piece, blue and yellow, tropical themed dress entitled, “river and sea.”

The dress was designed by Diana Rolando and made by artists Sabina Rosa Vitoria Valdez and Adolfo Jose Vitoria Valdez.

This year’s national beauty contest pays homage to Colombia’s Caribbean musical tradition and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of famed Colombian musician, Lucho Bermudez.

The event also awarded Stefany Giraldo Pino of Cesar the title of “Miss Elegance.”
