Social Communication student Diana Carolina Ortegon is preparing for the Miss Earth beauty pageant after being elected Colombia’s representative.
The 20-year old Bucaramanga native and the current beauty queen of town of Giradot, Santander, will begin with environmental work in her current hometown before traveling to the Philippines where Miss Earth will be held between November 14 and December 7.
According to news website Terra, Ortegon will be planting trees in Girardot as part of a campaign aimed at making locals more conscious of environmental issues.
The Miss Earth beauty pageant pretends to be a environmentally conscious alternative to the more popular Miss Universe and Miss World competitions.
According to the organization, it wants to “have its candidates and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth.”
