Medellin Virgin statue beheaded

Medellin vandals beheaded a statue of the Holy Virgin Mary after stealing it from a shrine in the southern Poblado neighborhood, a local newspaper reports.

According to newspaper El Colombiano, people are indignant about the vandalism, which they consider to be sacrilege.

The statue, located in the La Presidenta park next to the Dann Carlton hotel, was popular among the elderly population in the neighborhood who regularly went to the shrine to pray. Worshipers now have to go to a shrine located about a mile from their original place of worship.

Authorities do not know who stole the Virgin and left her without head or feet in a nearby puddle of mud.
