Marco Rayo, legendary cumbia composer, dies at 93

One of Colombia’s most respected composers of the folkloric cumbia, Marco Rayo, died Sunday in Bogota. The musician was 93.

Rayo was most famous for his songs “Cartagena de Indias” and “A mi Colombia.”

He formed groups like Canvall and Los Vlamers and recorded with Orquesta Órbita 99 and Los Violines Selectos de Marco Rayo.

Rayo was born in Buga, Valle del Cauca in 1938. He will be buried at the Jardines de Paz cemetery in the capital
