Mancuso asks Córdoba to visit him

Former leader of paramilitary organization AUC, Salvatore Mancuso asked
opposition senator Piedad Córdoba to visit him in his U.S. jail,
because of concerns about the reparation of his victims.

According to the Liberal Party senator, she received a letter from the extradited paramilitary leader asking her to meet him to discuss the his collaboration with Colombian justice and the reparation of his victims.

Córdoba told newspaper El Tiempo that Mancuso wants to continue confessing his crimes and help compensating his victims, but “stated that many people who had taken part in this process or their relatives were assassinated.”

According to the senator, Mancuso says the Government does not create the conditions for demobilized paramilitaries to safely confess their crimes.

Córdoba asked the help of Prosecutor General and the National Commission on Reparation and Reconciliation to figure out what to do with Mancuso’s letter and his invitation.
