Man kidnaps himself

Colombia news - handcuffs

A Huila man kidnapped himself to extort money from his own family, Caracol radio reported Wednesday.

Huila police in San Agustin apprehended Edinson Osorio Carvajal, who faked his own kidnapping to demand a ransom from his family and require
payment of 32 million pesos (approximately $USD15,000) to his two accomplices.

Thanks to the cooperation of Carvajal’s family and clues from the ransom phone calls, police were able to determine that two men were responsible. They were identified as Idel Alfonso Trujillo and Edilberto Campos Muñoz.

They confessed to police that Osorio Carvajal hired them to pressure his family to sell a property worth 32 million pesos, the sum that was demanded for his return home.

All three are in custody and face charges of extortion and kidnapping.
