Juanes supports Arizona boycott

Colombian singer Juanes supports a boycott of Arizona after the southern U.S. state ratified a controversial immigration law that obliges police to check the status of anyone believed to be an illegal immigrant.

Juanes is not the first Colombian singer to protest the the decision of The Grand Canyon State; pop star Shakira visited the mayor of the state’s capital Phoenix at the end of last month to express her concern about the law.

A month after Shakira’s protest, Juanes now joins an initiative by Zack de la Rocha, the singer of alternative rock band Rage Against The Machine, who called on singers from across the world to support the boycott.

A petition on the website states that “Arizona’s new law is an assault on the US Constitution and and an affront to the civil rights that were earned by generations who came before us.”

Aside Juanes, artists like Cypress Hill, Cafe Tacvba, Michael Moore, Calle 13, Kanye West and Sonic Youth support the boycott.
