January exports down 13.2%

Colombian exports tumbled 13.2
percent in January to $2.46 billion versus the same month last
year, the government said on Monday.

The country’s trade deficit was $166 million for the month
versus a surplus of $95.4 million in January 2008, a government
statement said.

Colombian gross domestic product contracted 0.7 percent in
the fourth quarter of last year as the global economic slowdown
bit into commodity export revenue. (Reuters)
