450 Colombian children die annually from malnutrition: ICBF

On average 450 children die annually from malnutrition in Colombia, admitted the director of welfare agency ICBF Wednesday.

The ICBF director, Rosa Maria Navarro, stated that this annual mortality rate attributed to malnutrition among children was not as drastic as the rate quoted some months ago which claimed as many as five thousand die each year, reported newspaper El Espectador.

The director stressed that there had been a recent increase in initiatives to combat this problem.

Navarro explained that in 2010, thousands of Colombian children are due to be included in food programs which will be conducted by the ICBF, in an attempt to ensure provision for all children.
