Impressive fourth place for BMX rider Jiménez

BMX, or ‘Bicicross’, celebrated its first ever edition at the Olympic Games.

Jiménez survived the heats and the semi finals without particular problems and formed part of the eight men that reached the final.

The Bogotano, who celebrates his 22nd birthday on Wednesday, had a bad start and momentarily occupied the last place. Due to crashes just ahead of the Colombian, Jiménez moved into fifth position just behind Dutchman Rob van den Wildenberg.

In the last meters, Jiménez surpassed his Dutch rival for fourth place.

The Golden Medal went to Latvian Maris Strombergs, with Americans Mike Day and Donny Robinson completing the podium.

The future looks bright for Jiménez, who is young enough to make another appearance at the London games in 2012.
