Gilberto Gil to bring Brazil to Bogotá

Gilbero Gil, one of the most influential Brazilian musicians of all time, will do two shows in Bogotá on December 9 and 10.

The musician and Brazil’s former Culture Minister was, together with Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes and Gal Costa, one of the key figures in Brazil’s 1970’s tropicália movement.

Gil (66) started out singing and playing bossanova in the 1950’s but became increasingly socially outspoken in the 1960’s. The Brazilian military regime that took power in 1964 jailed and extradited Gil in 1969.

After staying in London for a while, the singer moved back to Brazil in 1972 and continued his career.

Gil is currently touring Latin America to promote his latest album Banda Larga Cordel.
